Tourism topic and also information about anything and everything that are in Indonesia. on this occasion, I will discuss about the internet shop in Indonesia, which in Indonesian it’s so familiar called with “Warnet”, from the stands of “Warung Internet.” the existence of cafe, or you can call it internet cafe has become the standard necessity in almost big cities in Indonesia, like Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, Yogyakarta, Semarang, and many more. Many people prefer to fulfill their need in connecting to the internet via internet cafe or it usually called warnet.
Every warnet or internet cafe usually filled with 10-20 computer and the user, which it is as the people who want to access to the internet, have to rent by hour, the price of each hour is relative, dependent on where the warnet are there. For example, at Yogyakarta, you can rent the computer on a warnet and you will be charged at least in Indonesian Rupiah up to 4000 per hour and if it converted to US Dollar is approx as same as with $0.3-$0.5 per hour. But, in my opinion, because I often try for almost all of the warnet that are in Yogyakarta, the connection speed is not comfortable for heavy duty use. As long as you use the internet to browse and checking account or email address, it’s ok, but not the business and heavy duty use. The speed is low because the quota of Bandwidth of each warnet is divided with same on every computer.
I think, the government should not consider it as the only way for indonesian people to access to internet. I think, and I recommend, the home which it means in almost every home in Indonesia is easy to access to the internet without have to go to the internet cafe, it can’t save money for only access to internet. It should free or at least not have to go to internet cafe but is enough with access through the personal home with comfortable speed. The presence of warnet or internet cafe is only to fulfill the urgently necessity, or only for fun, relax or anything like this, not for serious purpose. It’s matching for you all the tourists when you are in Indonesia, you can choose the internet cafe that you feel is the best and then start your private connection from there, I think it can help the tourists and foreign people for the internet access purpose.
